gfnf was founded in the memory of Rebecca Chan. In January 2000, Rebecca died a few weeks after her 25th birthday. She was suffering from a rare form of cancer and spent the last couple months of her life in the palliative care unit. During that time, she continued to do the things she did best - listen to people, care for people, and love them in quiet and steadfast ways.

One of the unfortunate realities of her passing was that others were not able to enjoy her presence and heart that desired to be a "home" to others, particularly with children. The Foundation was named after Rebecca's Chinese name "En-Huei", which means grace, in the hope that her heart for others can be carried on in some small way.
